Federated Company Name Change to Macy’s Inc.

federated_logo.jpgLisa Cornwell of the Associated Press wrote an interesting article about Federated Department Stores Inc. changing its corporate name to Macy's, Inc.

Terry Lundgren, Federated's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said in announcing the proposed change that it would increase the company's visibility to customers, leverage the Macy's brand name, and help the company get more credit for its accomplishments in the marketplace.

macys_logo.jpgCornwell asked me to comment on the company name change, and I suggested that I believe the Federated change is mostly aimed at investors and the financial community; that the effect on the consumer will be zilch.
