Product Naming: Is Apple Going Mobile?

apple.gifAll eyes are on Apple. As it should be. Computer geeks, as well as people who just dig cool stuff, have been trying to guess the name of the next way cool Apple product for months now, including me, especially since this one promises to be a biggie: Apple’s killer foray into mobile computing/communication.

In an interesting turn of events, it seems that some enterprising reporters and bloggers have let loose the fact that Apple has recently trademarked the name to apply to products and services related to voice, email, instant messaging, wireless networking, digital music as well as video games, video, television, and web functions.

blackberry.jpgIf Apple wants to repeat its smash success with iPod, then, it seems to me, this new device will be everything to everyone: a web ready, mp3 and video ready telephone that, like the iPod, is sui generis. Also, the Mobile Me trademark comes just as one executive must-have, , has fallen upon hard times.

If Blackberry continues to have a legal cloud over its with NTP, it would open a door, a wide door, for Apple to step in with a delicious offering of its own to line the pockets of everyone from Gen X, Gen Y, and some corporate types as well. Technophiles and I will just have to wait…

First of all, Mobile Me is not quite as "catchy" as the iEverything else they have been dubbing their products. Secondly, the rumor mill has been pointing to a few options, Apple actually entering the mobile phone market to compensate for the horrible Rokkr phone that was introduced in the last quarter of 05, OR to create a whole new product that will integrate features of the crackberry (excuse me)Blackberry, iTunes and portable media display (movies on your mobile). I would go with the latter, considering Apple has been consistently moving towards the entertainment arena, I would be on the lookout for some fancy device that I can watch the latest episode of South Park while talking to my friends and simultaneously buying up and downloading music traxx to my .mac account. Hmmm. . . . somthing to ponder over the weekend eh?
